San Marcos, San Diego County, CA --- Seven years seems like a long time. Today's 21-year-old college student was in junior high seven years ago. "Reality TV" was a merciful non-reality seven years ago (ahh, the good old days!). At Stone Brewing they say the old adage "Time flies while you're having fun" is true. It's been better than a barrel full of monkeys, most likely because Stone replaced "monkeys" with award winning beers.
As an anniversary tradition, Stone turns the reigns over each year to their diabolical beer geniuses --- also known as "brewers" --- to create amazing Stone Anniversary Ales. Part of the tradition is that each year's Stone Anniversary Ale is a spin on one of Stone's existing brews. This year for the brewery's 7th Anniversary, the brewers set their focus on Stone Pale Ale and tweaked, altered, abused, and cranked the recipe to create a "big beer" enthusiast's dream. The resulting Stone 7th Anniversary Ale is a 77 IBU, 7.7% alc/vol, deep amber masterpiece!
The style? "Hmmm, maybe it's a Super Special Pale Ale," chuckles Stone Head Brewer Lee Chase. "It has an amber-ish/dark orange color, with both a quite hoppy/fruity aroma and upfront flavor, leading immediately to a hop-bitterness sting on the tongue followed quickly by noticeable malt reminiscent of sweet pastry. Fruity hop flavors linger and blend into a toasty-malty balance comes through in the finish. All in all it's got a full body and is placed nicely on the high side of the scale."
This unique brew will begin stomping on suspecting and unsuspecting palates alike beginning the first week of August. The beer will be available in 22oz bottles at better stores and specialty beer shops. The draft version will be unveiled at the Stone 7th Anniversary Open House & Invitational Beer Festival on Saturday, August 23rd
