Stone Brewing Shines On World Stage
Accolades Awarded From The United Kingdom, Sweden, & Australia
Escondido, San Diego County, CA --- Medals. Sure, everyone enjoys receiving them. In the beer business, many breweries make a regular practice of boasting, often through clever and flashy marketing campaigns, about the various accolades and medals they have received. Although Stone Brewing has won dozens of awards over the last ten years for our big-profile, complex and intense beers, we rarely exploit these successes. All the same, we thought we'd let you know that Stone Brewing recently competed in three International beer competitions and came away with four distinguished awards.

Stone Brewing has been working with the Brewers Association of Boulder, Colorado for a number of years in their Export Development Program (EDP). This program is designed for craft breweries who have an interest in foreign markets and are considering possible future exportation. As part of this program, participating breweries, such as Stone Brewing, take part in various international food and beverage festivals throughout the year, including select beer competitions.

In conjunction with the EDP, Stone Brewing recently took part in the Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival and garnered a Gold Medal for Stone IPA. Next up was the UK International Beer Challenge: World's 50 Best Beers, from which the often-overlooked Stone Smoked Porter walked away as the highest-ranking American beer, placing 8th overall. Finally, our beers made a journey "Down Under" to compete in the 2007 Australian International Beer Awards, and a Gold Medal was awarded to the 2007 Stone Imperial Russian Stout, along with a Bronze Medal for Stone IPA.

These accolades would be coveted by any brewery, and are even more impressive considering that Stone Brewing hasn't begun shipping beer outside of the United States. "Although we are not yet exporting our beers, by participating in these events we are able to gauge how Stone beers are received in other parts of the world...and these results are very satisfying indeed," said Stone Marketing Coordinator Chris Cochran.

So what's next for Stone Brewing? According to CEO Greg Koch, Stone is going to stick to their agenda and do things the way they have always done them – on their own terms. Koch sums it up rather frankly: "Stone is going to keep doing Amazing things. Those who get it get it. Those who don't...compromise."

For now, at least, a few select souls in various areas around the world seem to be getting it.
