World Beer Championships San Diego's #1 selling locally brewed and bottled beer takes a Gold Medal at the World Beer Championships

Stone Brewing's amber hued Stone Pale Ale is golden to beer judge's palates

San Diego -- While our athletes in Nagano, Japan are making Americans proud of their accomplishments at the 1998 Winter Olympics, San Diego's own Stone Brewing Co. has also been thrown into the national spotlight. Medal announcements have just come in from the 1998 World Beer Championships, and San Diego's own locally brewed Stone Pale Ale has brought home a Gold!

"Of course we're proud," says Stone Brewing's VP and Head Brewer Steve Wagner, "but this only confirms what San Diegans have been telling us all along --- that Stone Pale Ale is a true world-class beer." Wagner, who is a member of the exclusive Master Brewers Association of America, feels that while it's nice to be able to display a Gold Medal (pale ale category) in a trophy case, more important is the fact that fans of Stone Brewing's fresh and distinctive beers have made Stone Pale Ale San Diego's #1 selling locally brewed and bottled beer.

Striking the perfect balance between a rich maltiness and a crisp and aromatic hop character, Stone Brewing's delicious Stone Pale Ale can be found on tap at nearly 200 of the finer pubs and restaurants throughout San Diego County, and is also recently available on tap in Arizona. A little harder to find on tap, but worth seeking out are the dark, rich and smooth Stone Smoked Porter (a 1997 WBC Silver Medal winner -- porter category) and the deep golden, crisp and hoppy Stone IPA. All three can be found in 22oz. bottles throughout San Diego County and Arizona.
