Stone Brewing 6th Anniversary Open House & Invitational Beer Festival
To Raise Cheer & Charitable Contributions

San Marcos, CA – What do twenty of the west's best craft breweries, dozens and dozens of people with brightly dyed red hair and the Surfrider Foundation have in common? All will converge on August 10th, 2002 at the Stone 6th Anniversary Open House & Invitational Beer Festival.

The Stone Anniversary Open House has become a well-known community event over the years. Last year's event drew more than 3000 people and raised over $15,000 for the Surfrider Foundation. Once again, the Surfrider Foundation will be the recipient of funds raised during this year's event.

This year, the celebration is growing to include an "invitational beer festival." "We're inviting some of the most highly respected small breweries to participate in the festivities with us" says Stone CEO Greg Koch. "Beer fans will be exposed to great beer from 15-20 handpicked breweries."

"Words cannot express our excitement for this celebration --- we have fans that look forward to our anniversary event and the release of the Stone Anniversary Ale all year long," says Koch. "This year, the recipe for the special ale will be a 'cranked up' version of our Stone Smoked Porter. We think fans will really enjoy the special brew and find it to be everything they would expect from Stone Brewing."

The Stone 6th Anniversary Ale will be released for the first time on the day of the event and will be available for sampling in addition to Stone's existing lineup of Stone Pale Ale, Stone Smoked Porter, Stone IPA, Arrogant Bastard Ale and the recently released Stone Ruination IPA. Additionally, specially prepared cask-conditioned versions of the Stone 6th Anniversary Ale, Stone Ruination IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale will be served on traditional hand-pump beer engines.

With the goings on taking place between Noon and 4pm, visitors will have the opportunity to not only tour the brewery that makes their favorite beer, but to taste delicious foods specially prepared with the brewery's fresh ales.

Featured foods will include Stone Smoked Porter Sausage prepared by T&H Prime Meats & Sausage of San Marcos, Stone Smoked Porter Cheesecake made by Amore Cheesecakes of San Diego, Arrogant Bastard Ale battered thick cut onion rings courtesy of the popular Pizza Port restaurants, various Beer Cheeses made with Stone brews, and non-alcoholic sodas brewed up special by the Society of Barley Engineers Homebrewing Club of North County.

And what about the mention of red hair? Well, that's part of the Stone Brewing "Put Red On Your Head Week" charity fundraiser. It is expected that over 100 participants will dye their hair red for a week for charitable donations. The red headed week will culminate at the Stone Anniversary Open House & Invitational Beer Festival event.

A modest $15 donation to the Surfrider Foundation will get fest goers 15 sampler tickets good for any of the brews in the beer garden. $30,000-$40,000 is expected to be raised during the event.
