Arrogant Bastard Ale's Big Brother Set To Be Released

San Marcos, CA --- Released from where?  Prison?  No, no no.  That's not it at all.  Don't jump to conclusions.  The new 2001 edition of Double Bastard Ale is set to be released from the Stone Brewing Co.  Any day now.

"To call anything a 'Big Brother' of Arrogant Bastard Ale is a rather powerful statement by itself," says Stone Brewing's CEO Greg Koch referring to the brewery's infamously angry brew that rings in at a hefty 7.2% abv. "However, not only does the Double Bastard Ale up the ante to 10%, it's a true palate destroyer as well.  I get more and more emails every day from fans who are chomping at the bit for the release!"

"Palate destroyer?"  This is a good thing?  To fans of Arrogant Bastard Ale, it is a very good thing.  The Double Bastard's massive malt attack and intensely bitter hops deliver an impact unmatched by other brews --- a one-two punch taste sensation that Koch relates to being knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked once you are down.  Actually more like a one-two-three-four punch.  Sort of the Fight Club of beers.

Indeed.  While the front of the bottle reads "Ye shall know the Bastard, and the Bastard shall set you free," the back label warns "This is one lacerative muther of a beer.  Make no mistake... [it] is not to be wasted on the weak or tentative.  If you purchase this bottle in a fit of foolish abandon, you will surely regret the decision.  Only the Worthy are invited, and then only at your own risk."

When Stone Brewing released Double Bastard Ale for the first time last year, it disappeared off the shelves faster than a dot com venture capitalist off, well, the face of the earth.  This was facilitated somewhat by Stone Brewing posting a list on their website that included retail locations with dates and times of delivery.

"Even though we placed a note in each case requesting retailers to limit customers to a maximum of three bottles, all the stores I know of sold out within just a few hours," says Koch. "I even got an email from one fellow who confessed to following the Stone Brewing delivery truck from retailer to retailer so he could stock up on more than his share."
