Stone Brewing says “Dye Your Head Red” for Charity

San Marcos, CA – For the second year in a row, Stone Brewing Co. promotes colorful coiffures and charitable fundraising during Stone Brewing's “Put Red On Your Head Week.”

How does it work? “Put Red on Your Head Week” participants collect donations to dye their hair red for a week. (Note: Any NON-natural shade of red will do — if it approaches one of the crayon red colors: Burnt Sienna, Brick Red, Wild Strawberry, Radical Red, Crimson, Neon Red, then it will be just fine.) Sponsors make the charitable donations for the pleasure of seeing the participant in all their vivid crimson glory. Last year, the color was green and 50+ members of the community — including the Mayor of San Marcos, the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos, Stone CEO Greg Koch and Stone President and Brewmaster Steve Wagner — dyed their hair and raised over $17,000 for charity.

“It has come to my attention that there are a large number of people out there that have never dyed their hair an unnatural color of red before, which is of course a tragedy” said CEO Greg Koch. “We’re giving people an opportunity to help put both themselves and the world in a little better balance by adding more color and raising money for worthy charities.” Children’s Hospital of San Diego, The American Cancer Society and Boys and Girls Clubs of San Marcos are the charities benefiting from this unusual event.

Participants must “Put Red On Their Head” on or before August 3rd with the fund raising finale coinciding with the Stone Brewing 6th Anniversary Open House, on August 10th, 2002.

The Stone 6th Anniversary Open House & Invitational Beer Festival is open to the public and offers an opportunity to sample their award-winning ales in a festive environment. Last year’s anniversary event was attended by over 3000 beer lovers. This year, those participating in the fund-raiser will go to the front of the line for samples. That may turn the other attendees … well … red.
